EARLY CHILDHOOD TODDLER TEACHER (PART-TIME)

THE POSITION
Hawken School is seeking an experienced, professional, thoughtful, and caring individual whose passion is working with toddlers, 18 months to 3 years of age. Candidates should be dedicated in their work with toddlers and eager to work in a collaborative, team-based environment with thoughtful individuals committed to doing school better.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Practice a high level of professionalism with a student-centered mindset
  • Collaborate with a co-teacher to provide relationship-focused care, including sensitive observation and planning developmentally-appropriate classroom provocations that include all domains of learning as set forth in the Ohio Early Learning Standards
  • Implement the principles of the RIE philosophy during daily interactions with students and families, including in diapering, feeding, and nap support
  • Practice respectful, timely, and effective communication with teaching team, families, support staff, and administrators 
  • Serve as a member of the grade-level team, responsible for developing, planning, and implementing classroom and grade-level curriculum and measuring and documenting student progress
  • Attend and contribute to weekly team meetings, faculty meetings, faculty workdays, and professional development
  • Nurture a caring and supportive early childhood learning environment with SEL and DEIJ work at the core
  • Prepare materials and clean materials and environment on a daily basis
  • Keep accurate daily records of students’ care 
  • Plan for and participate in family-teacher conferences according to the school cycle (typically 3-4 times a year)
  • Perform any other non-teaching duties as assigned by the Director or Head of School, including but not limited to professional development workdays and admission events
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a Master’s degree and/or experience in RIE-inspired classrooms
  • Demonstrated competence and leadership in early childhood curriculum development, instruction, and pedagogy
  • Exceptional understanding of the developmental needs of early childhood learners
  • Joyful enthusiasm, creativity, flexibility, good humor, and a team spirit necessary for working within a dynamic team serving toddlers individually and in groups
  • A willingness and eagerness to assist in the life of the School 
  • Experience collaborating with colleagues and families 
  • Multilingual fluency is a plus
