The James A. Hawken Society was established over 40 years ago to recognize the individuals whose leadership annual gifts make possible the innovative, dynamic, and forward-focused environment that defines the Hawken experience.
Donors who have contributed $3,000 or more to the Hawken Fund are members of the School’s leadership giving circle, the James A. Hawken Society.
Gifts from the James A. Hawken Society comprised 67 percent ($1,280,774) of the total dollars raised for the 2022-2023 Hawken Fund. Considering that membership in the James A. Hawken Society represents just 9% of total Hawken Fund donors, these individuals make an outsized impact on the successful delivery of our mission.

Sheffield Society
The Sheffield Society recognizes members of the Hawken community who make plans to leave a legacy to Hawken School. Their gifts will make an impact for future generations of students.
The Sheffield Society is named for Henry Sheffield, one of Hawken’s first trustees and lifelong companion to James A. Hawken. Over the span of nearly six decades, Mr. Sheffield made numerous gifts to Hawken School. His first of many annual fund gifts to support operations was made in 1918; nearly sixty years later, upon his death, an estate gift was presented to the School.
