First Grader Places 1st at State Elementary Chess Championship

Jackson E. ’23, John J. ’25, Eli R. ’28, Rohan R. ’25, and Daniel X. ’25 (not pictured) competed with students from all corners of Ohio in the State Elementary Chess Championship tournament held on Saturday March 18, 2017.
 
 
With the only perfect score in the Primary Reserve U300 section, Eli captured first place among 33 players. In the Elementary Premier U700 section, with three wins and two draws, John tied for third and placed eighth among 66 players. He received an honorable mention trophy. In the same section, Daniel, Jackson, and Rohan, all with three wins and two losses, tied for 16th place. 
 
Daniel, Jackson, John, and Rohan also played in their first tournament as a team and received fifth place trophy among 11 teams in the Elementary Premier U700 section.  
 
Coaches Connor Keuchel ’17 and Brennen Keuchel ’19 worked as Chief Tournament Directors in the K-6 Championship and K-3 Primary Championship sections respectively.
