Intensive Excursions

For those unfamiliar with Intensives, they can be summed up this way: one course, all day for three weeks to enable in-depth, immersive study of a single subject.

 

Intensive classes take place not only on Hawken’s main campus but at various locations throughout Cleveland and around the globe. This term, some students are fulfilling a semester’s credit of Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Humanities; others are immersed in Shakespeare Creativity Lab, Filmmaking, Topology, Homelessness or Robotics, among others.

In Pursuit of Justice: A major component of this offering includes travel to Washington, D.C., where students have had numerous opportunities to see all three branches of our government in action. See their Instagram feed here.

The Creativity Process: Unleashing Your Hidden Genius is a project-based class that emphasizes creativity as a process that can be learned. Enrolled students are currently traveling in Boston, presenting projects at Harvard, learning about Project Zero from David Perkins and Howard Gardner, and working at MIT with some of the thought leaders in this field. The Marine Science Intensive culminates in a two-week adventure at the Island School/Cape Eleuthera Institute in the Bahamas, where they have the opportunity to work with live specimens and participate snorkeling and scuba diving expeditions. Don’t miss the class blog, found here.
