Graduate Presents "How to Study Less and Learn More"

Former student and drama club enthusiast Andrew Watson '84 returned to Hawken's stage this week, this time in the role of educational expert.

A teacher since 1984, Andrew became interested in the intersection of neuroscience, education and psychology. Now president of Translate the Brain, he offers educational presentations and workshops that offer practical learning advice based on brain science.

During the course of a two-day visit to Hawken, Andrew presented proven study techniques to Upper School students, parents and teachers. Some of his tips included:

- spread out study sessions rather than doing the work all at once
- quiz yourself instead of re-reading
- study in silence
- don't multitask
- get at least 8 hours of sleep

Armed with Andrew's tips and his mantra that "Sleep is Homework," Upper School students have a few more tools to help them navigate their school work.
