Faculty Travel to Share Hawken Innovations
Hawken faculty and administrators are frequently invited to other schools to share their experiences with the School's innovative programming.
Director of Faculty Development and Humanities Teacher Dorothy Moulthrop visited Albuquerque Academy during spring break to share Hawken's experience with teaching and learning in long blocks.
Albuquerque Academy will adopt a new schedule next year that will include 75-minute blocks. "Dorothy Moulthrop’s presentation was just what the doctor ordered," commented one attendee. In addition to presenting to the full faculty, Moulthrop met with departments and department chairs to discuss the challenges and opportunities their schedule change will bring.

Catlin Gable School in Portland, OR and The Bush School in Seattle, WA invited Gries Center Director Sara Mierke '84 to visit and share her knowledge of establishing an urban center.
At Catlin-Gable Mierke met with administrators, faculty and community members to discuss their challenges and consider solutions in establishing their PLACE Center. At Bush, Mierke presented Hawken's experience in establishing an urban center to faculty and board members, offering information and recommendations. “The work that Hawken is doing is not only impressive, but truly inspiring, said Bush Head of School Percy Abram. "We are hopeful to follow your example and use our progressive education roots to focus on the kind of school we want (and need) to become in the future.” Mierke also visited Oregon Episcopal School, connecting with faculty and administrators on the topic of service learning and global programs.
In addition to Hawken faculty sharing experiences at schools and conferences across the country, Hawken welcomes visitors to the Lyndhurst, Gates Mills and University Circle campuses throughout the year.
