Junior Addresses International Gathering of Scientists

Anton Salem '16 spoke at the 39th International Conference on Advanced Ceramics and Composites, addressing 1,100 scientists and engineers gathered in Daytona Beach from around the world.

The conference, held since 1977, focuses on advanced structural and functional ceramics, composites, and other emerging ceramic materials and technologies. Scientists and engineers attend to give presentations, network, and meet customers and vendors at an expo.

Anton was one of only two “second generation” presenters, speaking on the topic "3-D Printing and Characterization of Polymer Composites with Different Reinforcements."

"As one who aspires to enter into the engineering world, the ICACC provided me with the opportunity to not only speak with some incredibly intelligent engineers, but also to share work of my own with them, and receive fantastic feedback," notes Anton. "I was incredibly fortunate to participate in this conference, and most definitely have been inspired to further pursue engineering as a career."

Last summer, Anton researched 3-D printed polymer composites at NASA Glenn under the guidance of Dr. Jay Singh. His work examined how different printing methods, as well as the addition of different materials, influenced properties of a 3-D printed part.
