A Day in the Life of the Gries Center

The Sally & Bob Gries Center for Service and Experiential Learning has been teeming with activity this spring, and on a recent Friday, the Center simultaneouly hosted classes from the Lower, Middle and Upper School divisions.

Juniors and seniors in the Entrepreneurial Studies course, spent the day working with their mentors to prepare Shark Tank style presentations to investors.

Seventh graders welcomed their parents as they presented monument studies in preparation for a trip to Washington, DC.

The Center was also visited by some of Hawken's youngest students as kindergartners explored the Center hunting for shapes. While the students completed their math assignment, they were also getting to know the urban extension campus that will be home to many furture visits and projects in the grades ahead.

The Gries Center now readies itself for it's busiest period, Upper School Intensives. The three-week, day-long long courses allow students to take a deep, concentrated dive into core subjects and special electives, utlilizing the nearby museums, educational and service organizations.
