Students Participate in Wreath Laying Ceremony in Washington, DC

Four seventh graders had the honor of representing Hawken in a Wreath Laying Ceremony at Arlington Cemetery this week.

Jack Gole, David Hedrick, Emily Brenner, and Ally Sewell were selected based on paragraphs they wrote stating why they would like to participate.

"The paragraphs that were submitted this year were some of the best that we have ever seen," said the 7th Grade Faculty. "We are really proud of the students – their paragraphs about their connections to our country, family connections to the military, or the honor of participating in the ceremony, were touching and from the heart."

The seventh grade spent a week in DC visiting and studying monuments and museums as part of the Middle School's Doorways program, curriculum-based trips that serve as a culminating experience to students’ intellectual and personal growth. Sixth graders traveled to Williamsburg, VA, and eighth graders participated in an Urban Outward Bound excursion in New York City.
