Roberta Kaplan '84 Profiled by "Makers"

Roberta Kaplan '84 is featured in a compelling documentary by "Makers," a video initiative developed by AOL and PBS.

Kaplan is the attorney who successfully argued the United States V. Windsor case, a landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling that a key provision of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) violated the U.S. Constitution by barring legally married same-sex couples from enjoying the wide-ranging benefits of marriage conferred under federal law.

In her interview, Kaplan talks about why she chose to take on the Windsor case, and what made the case personal. Watch the 5-minute documentary here.

"MAKERS: Women Who Make America" is an ongoing initiative that aims to be the largest and most dynamic collection of women's stories ever assembled. Subjects are selected on an ongoing basis to form a library of stories that include women from all walks of life with diverse experiences, perspectives and incredible stories. Oprah Winfrey, Madeleine Albright, Carol Burnett, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Katie Couric, and Arianna Huffington are a few of the other notable women featured in Makers' growing library.
