8th Grade Duo Lead Team to Soccer National Championship
Hawken 8th graders Julia Aliazzi and Jordan Taylor, playing for the U15 La Masia Hawks, took first place in the 2014 Chicago Regionals of the Copa Coca-Cola Soccer Tournament. With the win the team advances on an all-expenses paid trip to the National Finals in Los Angeles, April 19-20, and a chance to win a trip to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Enroute to the regional championship, the team, made up of 13-year-olds from around the state of Ohio, went undefeated in seven games against girls two years older. They defeated teams from Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin and Indiana outscoring their opponents 43-9, winning the finals against a team from Illinois 2-1. Julia’s stellar ball control and patience was critical to play and she provided the game winning assist to Jordan, who scored with one minute left in the game.
Jordan was the tournament's leading scorer. She plays for the Ohio Premier Soccer Club U15 ECNL team based in Columbus, and is a U14 US National Team Pool Player.

Julia was the team’s second leading scorer. She plays for the Cleveland Futbol Club U13 based in Medina, and is an Ohio North Soccer Olympic Development Program participant.
Copa Coca-Cola is an international youth soccer tournament and a global celebration of soccer passion. The organization unites more than 1 million teens in over 60 countries around the world promoting an active lifestyle and encouraging values such as team spirit, friendship and respect.
In the United States, Copa Coca-Cola invites teams from around the country to play in a series of local round robin tournaments and one national final in Los Angeles. The winner of the National tournament wins an all-expense paid trip to soccer camp and the 2014 World Cup held in Brazil this summer.
