8th Graders Place First in kidWind Challenge

After spending several weeks studying wind energy, 8th grade students designed and built their own functional small-scale wind turbines, then competed against peers in the kidWind Challenge at the Cuyahoga Career Center in Brecksville.
Hawken’s team of TJ Perusek, Sydney Harper, Charlie Ross and Alison Cohen took first place in the competition based on the power output of their turbine, their design, their research and their knowledge of wind power. TJ and Sydney represented the group at the Saturday morning judged competition.

As part of the first place win, the team has earned the right to compete as state representatives in the national kidWind Challenge in Washington, DC, on April 26.
