Senior Wins Harvard Debate Tournament

Will Mascaro '14 placed first out of 392 contestants representing 105 schools from 22 states at the Harvard National Congress tournament, February 15-17.
Also at the competition, Mascaro won the student-elected Quarterfinal, Semifinal and Final Session Leadership awards.

Hawken sophomore Philip Hedaytania also won the Preliminary Session Leadership award at the Harvard tournament, and advanced to the semifinals in the competition.

Tim Perevozchikov '14 received a 4th place speaker award out of the 626 debaters in Public Forum debate.

Both Mascaro and Hedaytania have qualified for the Tournament Champions in Congressional Debate that will be held at the University of Kentucky in April, and the National Forensic League National tournament in Overland Park, Kansas, in June, where Mascaro will compete in Senate, and Hedaytania in the House.

Highlights of Mascaro’s season include Congressional Debate championships at the prestigious Glenbrook Speech and Debate Tournament and the Sylvania Invitational; third places at the Barkley Forum, John Edie Holiday Debate and Minneapple Speech tournaments; a fourth place at the Yale Invitational; and a fifth place at October’s Bronx Round Robin.

Additionally, Megin Cerbin '14 has been selected as first alternate in Senate at the upcoming national tournament; and Larry Fulton '15 and Nayan Rao '20 were selected as second alternate and fourth alternate respectively in the national tournament’s House competition.
