Intensive: Furniture Design & Fabrication

What makes a good piece of furniture? And how do you make it? Students in “Furniture Design & Fabrication” work to create one-of-a-kind pieces using a combination of wood and steel.
Students in this Intensive are exploring the conceptual, aesthetic and structural issues involved with design and construction. Along the way they are learning how to use power and hand tools, joinery techniques for wood, and how to cut, bend and weld steel. Designs will be evaluated on function, structure, aesthetics, context and culture.

Grayson Glass, a 2003 graduate and current parent, is co-teaching the class. His company, Graylo Hardwoods, is “a young company located in Clevaland Ohio specializing in local, custom milled, and rare hardwood furniture and jewelry.”
