Music Teacher Performs with Orchestra
When 6th, 7th and 8th grade students settled into their seats at a Cleveland Orchestra performance on Wednesday, they had no idea that their music teacher, Ms. Laura Schupbach, would be appearing on stage.
The scheduled singer was unable to make the education concert, but former Hawken parent and Director of Education and Programs Joan Katz Napoli knew just who to turn to, having seen a YouTube video of Ms. Schupbach's spontaneous performance with Josh Groben (read more from the TimesReporter.com).
"I sang Leonard Cohen’s 'Hallelujah' while accompanied by maestro Bill Eddins on piano. The orchestra was tacet for the piece," Schupbach said. "Hawken Middle School was in attendance, and was unaware of my participation until I walked out on stage. It was a very cool surprise!"
The performance earned Ms. Schupbach the respect and admiration of her students and will surely be remembered by all.
