Cupola Installed Atop Lower School Expansion

Watch a 50-second YouTube video that captures the cupola installation on Hawken's new Lower School renovation and expansion.
In August 2013, Hawken completed a renovation and expansion of its Lower School. The stunning new facility provides classrooms that facilitate Hawken's innovative curriculum and offer additional space to meet increased enrollment demand. Windows look from the 2nd and 3rd grade classrooms into a signature common space and the expansion includes new science labs, expanded classrooms in the M.A.C. (Musical Arts Center, formerly the Link), and a redesigned EcoGarden.

Hawken's Lyndhurst facility was originally built in the 1920s on land donated by Chester and Frances Bolton. In 2006, Hawken dedicated Lincoln Hall, which houses the Middle School. The new Lower School extends the form and function of Hawken's Early Childhood Center, which opened in 2012, reflecting the continuity of Hawken programs from preschool through grade 8.

Made possible by the generous support of the Hawken community and in recognition of a lead gift by Dan and Ellie Hurwitz, the Lower School building is being named named Hurwitz Hall.
