Hawken Receives School of Excellence Award in Debate

Hawken debaters capped off an exceptional year of competition at the 2013 National Forensic League National Speech & Debate Tournament in Alabama at the end of June.
Tim Perevozchikov '14 and Ron Lubarsky '14 reached the semi-final round in Public Forum debate.  They placed 4th out of the 270 public forum teams at the tournament and received a $5000 scholarship from the Arthur Rupe Foundation. They have also automatically qualified for the 2014 national tournament.

Will Mascaro '13 reached the final round in Congressional Debate. Zach Kirsch '14 and Sid Ahuja '14 placed in the top 33 in Public Forum debate.

The team placed among the top 20 schools in the nation in debate sweepstakes at the tournament, resulting in Hawken receiving a School of Excellence in Debate award.

More than 3,000 high school students from 967 high schools, and students from 20 international schools located in countries such as China and Korea participated in the tournament, held June 16–21 in Birmingham, Ala.
