Junior Wins National Essay Contest

Congratulations to Claudia Willen '14 for winning an essay contest sponsored by the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America.

The contest, open to students in grades 10, 11, and 12, requires applicants to write a 500-word essay response to the following prompt: How does the Monroe Doctrine determine our past and present dominance as a world power? Winners of the national essay contest attend a weeklong Congressional Seminar Workshop in Washington, DC planned by The Washington Workshops Foundation.

Claudia will join over 50 other students from across the nation for this enrichment experience in June. She is the 7th Hawken student to be selected in the past 10 years.
