Hawken Takes Second Place in Copley Academic Challenge Tournament

On December 8, Hawken’s Middle School Academic Challenge teams travelled to Copley for a tournament. Our 25 students were divided into four teams, and each played 7 matches throughout the day. After attending two practices weekly after school since September, our students were ready for the challenge. Many of the matches found us hitting our buzzers at super speed and racking up the points. At the end of the day, we received the winning record and points to pull ahead of a Copley team to bring home the Second Place trophy in a very tough field.

This tournament followed qualifications set up by a national organization called NAQT (National Academic Quiz Tournaments LLC). Because of this, our team is now qualified to travel to Chicago for the prestigious National tournament in April of 2013. Our team is already slated to attend a National tournament sponsored by Questions Unlimited in June of 2013. Last year, we were the only Ohio team to attend both national tournaments. We are looking forward to once again showing our Hawken pride on the national stage.
