Debaters Place at Tournaments

The Hawken Speech and Debate team scored championships in two December tournaments.

Junior Aric Floyd was declared co-champion at the Ohio Valley Invitational tournament held at the University of Kentucky, December 1-3, while Senior Russell Cohen received a fifth place speaker award in Lincoln Douglas. Floyd also received a second place speaker award in Lincoln Douglas, and received a bid to participate in the Tournament of Champions. Seniors Arthur Erlendsson and Adam Wolf advanced to the double-octa final round in Policy Debate.

On Dec 7th and 8th the Hawken team competed at a large, state wide tournament at Glen Oak High School in Canton. Juniors Tim Perevozchikov and Zach Kirsch were named champions in the Public Forum Debate, as Sophomores Max Schachere and Aman Nair finished as octa-finalists and Seniors Arman Raz and Michael Meany placed in the quarter-finals. Junior Will Mascaro was named champion in Congressional Debate. In Lincoln Douglas Debate, Sophomore Swetha Kareti and Aric Floyd were quarter finalists.
