Student Entrepreneurs Land Internship
Honors Entrepreneurial Studies students Madi Thomas '13, Annie Schirm '13, Ben Bornstein '13 and Sawyer Opalich '13 earned a paid internship at Hawken parent David Levine's company Mr. Beams, an e-commerce sensation that sells Amazon's most popular LED emergency lighting systems. The four seniors along with three other teams comprised of their classmates, earned first-place for their work designing Pinterest campaigns for the company. The team, who called themselves "Mrs. Beams," produced engaging fun and DIY videos, along with still photo campaigns for Mr. Beams. "This project allowed us to explore different ways to use social media and produce videos. It was a lot of work for everyone on the team and it's worth it," said winning team member Madi Thomas.

"I had a difficult time making a choice. All the students produced creative and innovative solutions," explained Karen Walker, Mr. Beams' Marketing Director, who was the sole judge of the students' campaigns and final presentations. Students on the winning team are working out the details of their assignments, some of which may be completed remotely from home. "Now, that's a dream job - working in my pajamas from home!" exclaimed Thomas.
"Though statistics are not kept, career counselors in higher education are in agreement that recent college grads face fierce competition to land unpaid internships upon graduation. Hawken Entrepreneurs gain valuable experience and start building their resumes while still in high school and they get paid. What an incredible opportunity!"
