Sisters Receive Bronze at World Competition

Grace Huang ’13 and Jessica Huang ’15, members of the nationally recognized, Medina based competitive jump rope team, The Heartbeats, achieved recognition in National and World competitions this summer.

Grace and Jessica placed 7^th and 11^th respectively in Single Competition at the National Championships held in Long Beach California.  775 jumpers from 57 teams and 30 states participated in the competition which also saw Grace receive 4^th and 7^th place designations for 3 and 4 person Double Dutch.  Jessica received  13^th and 4^th place designations in the same categories.  In the Grand National competition, which indicates the top overall in National events, Grace placed 9^th in 3 person Female Double Dutch  and Jessica places 8^th in 4 person Double Dutch.

At the July 30-August 9 FISAC-IRSF World Championship Competition held in Tampa, Florida, Grace and Jessica were part of the 17 member Heartbeats team representing Team USA in team show.  They competed along with 1100 international athletes representing 21 teams from across the world.  Their team placed third, receiving a bronze, and were the only US group to have the US flag raised for an overall event.  Belgium received first place designation; Australia received 2^nd.

The Heartbeats are a not-for-profit amateur athletic organization consisting of students in Northeastern Ohio. They compete for recognition at the regional, national and international levels and are strongly involved in working for the sport to eventually become a designated Olympic event.
