16 Receive Merit Scholar Recognition

Seven Hawken seniors were recently named semifinalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Competition. The students join a long tradition of Merit Scholar excellence and earn Hawken the distinction of the highest number of National Merit Semifinalists amongst its Cleveland area peer schools over the past five years.

Congratulations to Russell M. Cohen, Sydney T. Costantini, Jacob L. Dennis, Alexandra Markovich, Mark A. Murgiano, Isabella K. Todaro and Caroline G. Vexler. These exceptional students have an opportunity to continue to compete for 8,300 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million, and the prestigious honor of earning the title Merit Scholar. Caroline Vexler received an additional honor of being selected for the 2012-13 National Hispanic Recognition Program.

Congratulations also to the following nine seniors for receiving a Letter of Commendation: Jacob Broida, Marissa Cominelli, Brian Drockton, Arthur Erlendsson, Justin Faulhaber, Carolyn Mazanec, Hunter Moeller, Liam Oznowich, and Andrew Wakefield.

The National Merit Scholarships are underwritten by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation and approximately 440 business organizations and higher education institutions that share the NMSC’s goals of honoring the nation’s scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.
