Debater Places 2nd in Nation

Will Mascaro ‘15 placed second in the nation in Congressional Debate at the National Catholic Forensic League Grand Finals held in Baltimore May 26-27, 2012. More than 200 students participated in Congressional Debate at the tournament offering six forensics and four debate events. “This is a very impressive achievement ... especially since Will is a sophomore,” says debate coach and Upper School science teacher Bob Shurtz.

Will qualified for the Tournament of Champions this year as a result of making it to the semi-final round of the Barkley Forum tournament at Emory and the final round at the Harvard tournament. By placing in the top six at the National Catholic Forensic League Grand Finals, he has already autoqualified for the 2013 Tournament of Champions.

Will also placed fourth at the Ohio High School Speech League State tournament this year.

The National Catholic Forensic League Grand Finals is considered one of the three most prestigious national tournaments for speech and debate.
