Lower School Ends Year With Awards

The Lower School gathered for their final assembly of the year and amongst a host of presentations and performances two significant student awards were presented.

The LaVelle Pelton Esgar award is given annually to the 4th grade student in the Hawken Lower School who, in the opinion of the lower school faculty, best exemplifies through his/her behavior the true spirit of the Hawken motto “Fair Play” that LaVelle Esgar instilled through her example both in the classroom and on the playing fields. It is with great pleasure that the lower school announce Madelyn “Maddy” Eippert as the worthy recipient for the current school year.

The Mildred Smith Award is presented annually to the student in the Fifth Grade of the Hawken Lower School who in the opinion of the faculty, best exemplifies the unfailing integrity under all circumstances, the dedication to doing his or her best at all times, and the unselfish willingness to help others that earned Mildred Smith a special place in the hearts of her colleagues of the Hawken Lower School. This year’s honoree is Emily Brenner.

Both Emily and Maddy were joined by their parents and in Maddy’s case her brother Jackson (current 1st Grade student) at the assembly.
