Senior Earns Trip to Europe in Science Competition

Senior Ani Dasarathy was one of 12 students nationwide selected for an all expense paid June trip to CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research) in Switzerland and France. Competing at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) with his project titled “PT-Symmetric Boundary Conditions in Quantum Mechanics,” Ani also received a 4th Award of $500 in physics.

CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is one of the world's largest and most respected centers for scientific research. It operates the world's largest accelerator together with the most complex scientific instruments, which are used to study the basic constituents of matter. These studies, carried out by some 10,000 scientists from all over the world, are expected to shed light on some of the mysteries of our universe. The twelve Intel ISEF finalists were selected to travel to CERN to meet with researchers, see experiments, and enjoy Geneva and the beauty of Switzerland and France.

Intel ISEF, a program of Society for Science & the Public, is the world's largest international pre-college science competition and the premier global science competition for students in grades 9–12. Each year it enables more than 1,500 high school students from about 70 countries, regions, and territories to display their independent research and compete for over $3 million in awards.
