HAWKEN GIRLS SWIMMING WINS 14th CONSECUTIVE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, MOST IN OHIO IN ANY SPORT, 22nd CHAMPIONSHIP OVERALL

The girls swim team did not dissapoint as they excelled to another state championship. Sarah Koucheki '13 defended both of her state titles in the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly. Carrie Bencic '13 won both the 200 and 500 freestyles. Marissa Cominelli ’13, Lizzie Aronoff ’12, Carrie Bencic ’13, and Caroline Vexler ’13 broke their own state record and finished first in the medley relay. Marissa also broke her own state record and finished first in the 100 back. Kouchecki, Bencic, Jordan Bitterman ’12, and Morgan Cohara ’12 set a state record and finished first in the 400 free relay. Marissa Cominelli '13 was named the girl swimmer of the meet.
 

 

The boys swim team placed 5th in the State Division II meet. The Hawks sent seven swimmers to States, led by Micah Simpson '13, who earned 2nd place finishes in both the 100 and 200 yard freestyle events, 4th in the 200 medley relay, and 5th in the 400 free relay. Also in Canton were Henry Senkfor '14 (6th, 100 breaststroke; 4th, 200 medley relay; 5th 400 free relay), Nick Ranallo '12 (9th, 500 free; 5th, 400 free relay), Elijah Spiro '14 (16th, 100 breaststroke; 4th, 200 medley relay), Quinn McHale '14 (4th, 200 medley relay), Alan Karickoff '12 (5th, 400 free relay), and Stephen Pioro '15 (200 free relay qualifier). The boys team were also Chagrin Valley Conference Champions, and the Orange Relays Champions.
