Hawken Wins Two 1st Place Trophies at Academic Tournament

The Hawken Upper School Academic Team traveled to Olmsted Falls High School on Saturday, October 8 for their Fall Kickoff Academic tournament. There were 24 varsity teams and 6 JV teams from 13 area schools participating. The Hawken Varsity Team A consisting of Eric Xiao ’12, Adil Menon ’12, and Ani Dasarathy ’12, finished in First Place with a record of 9 wins and no losses. Individually, Eric was the 5th highest scoring individual at the tournament.
 

The Hawken JV team, consisting of Marty Zhu ’14, Maureen Rakovec ’15, Swetha Kareti ’15, and Aman Nair ’15, also placed First in the JV bracket, compiling a record of 7 wins and no losses.
 

The Hawken Varsity Team B, consisting of Sanjay Rao ’12, Mitchell Krall ’12, Adam Charnas ’12, and Shang-Shang Chen ’14, also had a strong performance finishing the day with a record of 5 – 2 in their eight team bracket. So on the day, Hawken teams were 21 – 2 in their matches.
 

In late breaking news, Hawken’s A team also won its division at the Corey Salem Tournament at Copley High School on Saturday, October 15, with a record of 7-0. That team consisted of Eric Xiao ’12, Adil Menon ’12, Ani Dasarathy ’12, and Jonathan Meckler ’12. That win qualifies them for the Ohio Academic Regional competition in April of ’12.
