Academic Challenge Teams Compete in Chicago

In June, Hawken Middle School was once again invited to the Chicago phase of the National Academic Challenge Tournament. There has only been a National Middle School Tournament for 4 years and Hawken has been invited all four times.
Hawken Academic Challenge teams A and B have already dominated at both the regional and state levels and welcomes the challenge of competing against the top teams from all over the country. Our B team began matched up against the top ranked teams, and while they did not proceed to the playoffs, they fought hard and showed tremendous skills and determination.
Hawken A team showed their prowess early on, winning match after match to easily secure a playoff spot, a 4th place finish, and a 5-2 record after three days of play.
Chicago is one of three arenas for the National tournaments. When all three have been completed, the win-loss records and average scores are used to determine a national ranking among all of the schools that attend. Our exceptional play at this tournament has earned Hawken Middle School a national ranking of 10th place.

Hawken Upper School sent a team to this National tournament for the first time this year,  ending with a 6-1 record in the High School division and scoring more average points per game than every other team in the nation at any of the three tournaments. This is the first time this has ever been done by a rookie team.
Congratulations to all of our Academic Challenge students!
