Middle School Chinese Teacher Awarded Fellowship

Congratulations to Mandarin Chinese teacher William Hahn, who was one of only a dozen educators to receive a fellowship to attend a program administered by the American Council for International Education.

William will travel to the city of Changchun to attend the six-week long program, which centers on intensive language training and cultural immersion. The purpose of the program, which is funded by the State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, is to "provide K-12 and community college teachers of Chinese or Arabic with unique opportunities to develop expertise in the foregin languages they teach, enhance their teaching skills, and increase their knowledge about the country where the critical language is spoken."

During his six weeks in Changchun, William will attend class for five hours a day, attend weekly seminars focusing on pedagogical issues, and meet daily with a peer tutor. All participants agree to speak solely in Chinese during the program.
