Championship Award, Other Honors Earned at GCCTM Contest

Imagine committing to take part in a competitive mathematics event to be held the day after returning from an exhausting week-long class trip to Washington, D.C. or New York City. Such was the dedication of fifteen seventh and eighth grade students on Saturday May 1st. That morning, five teams of Hawken students met at Mayfield High School to meet the challenge of four rounds of mental math and intense problem solving. Eighth grade competitors were Ryuji Fujita, Lena Goren, Sophie Kerman, Eleanor Rimmerman, Sarah Stark, Sindhura Vallabhaneni, Anna Du, Aric Floyd, and Marty Zhu. Of these three teams, one received a Championship Award and two earned trophies. Seventh grade team members were Alex Amin, Aman Nair, Dennis Wu, Sam Rao, Max Schachere, and Daniel Weiss. Of the two teams formed by these students, one earned a Special Award ribbon and one was awarded trophies. Trophy recipients score in the top 20 percent of all competing teams. Sixteen Trophy Awards were available for the 80 teams at the Mayfield site and Hawken students clinched three. Congratulations to all participants and to their coach, sixth grade mathematics teacher Mrs. Pam Richmann, for their efforts and their pursuit of excellence in mathematics!
