Randi Michel`s Research Presented at National Convention

lvl
Research on lowering women`s risk for breast and ovarian cancer conducted by Randi Michel `10 and her STEMM mentor Jill Polk was accepted for a platform presentation at the Annual Clinical Genetics Meeting held in Albuquerque, New Mexico in March. Randi and Jill were joined by \"a diverse group of world-renowned physicians, scientists, counselors and leaders in their fields.\" After writing a research abstract last summer, Randi worked with her mentor Jill, a genetic counselor at Hillcrest Hospital, to develop a more in-depth abstract for submission. The conference requires that presenters have an advanced degree in their respective specialties; thus Jill presented the platform presentation accompanied by Randi. Platform presentations \"highlighted original scientific research\" and included a 10-minute talk followed by a 5 minute Q&A. Of her impressive accomplisment, Randi commented, \"I was really excited to hear that my research study was accepted. The point of research is to advance clinical practice and scientific knowledge in order to ultimately improve public health, and publicizing one`s research to professionals in the field is the first step to achieving meaningful results. I was also really happy for Jill, who spent an enormous amount of time and energy to make all of this possible, and I am extremely grateful.\"
