Speech and Debate Team Awarded at Districts
Five upper school students who participated in the NFL North Coast District Tournament at Orange High School February 19-20 qualified for the National Speech and Debate Tournament to be held in Kansas City in June: Mike Gwin and Ozan Cubukcu in Public Forum; Michael Eby and Paul Macklis in Policy Debate; and Kyle Dipre in Humor. The Hawken team was also the recipient of the Chunaut Policy Debate Sweeps (best school in policy debate and special recognition from the NFL for a decade of achievement in individual events. Other impressive results include the following: Peter Mintun and Alex Zempolich, semi-finalists in Public Forum (qualified for states as a result); Chaterine Blebea and Erica Duff, semi-finalists in Policy; Omar Diab, quarter-finalist in Lincoln Douglas; and Margret Erlendsdottir, 6th place in International Extemporaneous Speaking.
