Middle School Robotics Team wins Creativity Prize

Hawken`s Middle School Robotics team brought home an impressive trophy for "Presentation Creativity" from the First Lego League regional competition held on December 12 at Hathaway Brown. Challenged to design an innovative solution to a transportation problem facing their local community, the team chose to focus on introduced species entering the Great Lakes. They capitalized on thorough background research to arrive at an innovative solution involving the use of high intensity UV lights within the holds of cargo ships entering the Great Lakes from abroad. Tournament judges noted the team`s creative approach to communicating their solution, which involved a Swedish fish-enhanced skit and formal PowerPoint presentation.
