Nearly 100 awards were bestowed upon Upper School students at The 2009 Awards Day ceremony held in Kennedy Auditorium on Friday, June 5. Students were recognized not only for stellar academic performance, but also for their artistic talent, athletic prowess, and commitment to service. While many students received awards, many more did not; however, Head of School Scott Looney acknowledged all students for their contributions, both academic and otherwise, emphasizing that awards are not the sole measure of excellence or accomplishment. Although Hawken`s most esteemed award, the Bolton Award, was announced at Awards Day, it was actually presented one day earlier at the Senior Breakfast because the recipient, Terrence Embry, was competing at the state track meet and thus unable to attend the ceremony. The Bolton Award is bestowed upon a Hawken student who excels in all aspects of education and in so doing has truly lived up to the Hawken motto: "That each generation introduce its successor to a higher plane of life." Terrence will be attending Oberlin College on a full scholarship through Questbridge. Receiving the third annual Grant Roth `85 Community Service award was Emily Brueck. As recipient of this award, Emily was given a $500 stipend to donate to the charity of her choice. Below is a list of all awards and their recipients.
