Two Juniors Win National Essay Contest

Congratulations to Elizabeth Bruml `10 and Emily Weatherhead `10, who have been selected as winners of an essay contest sponsored by the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. The contest, open to students in grades 10, 11, and 12, requires applicants to write a 500-word essay response to the following prompt: Over the course of history which American leader has provided the greatest visionary leadership? Winners of the national essay contest attend a weeklong Congressional Seminar Workshop in Washington, D.C. planned by The Washington Workshops Foundation. The seminar focuses on the study of American government with particular emphasis on the U.S. Congress. Elizabeth and Emily will join over 50 other students from across the nation for this enrichment experience from June 20-26. In the last 5 years, a total of 6 Hawken students have been selected for this award.
