Brother, sister duo in Karamu/Dobama production

Seventh grader Aric and his sister Alexis Floyd, a ninth grader, are appearing now as Jackie and Emmie Thibodeaux in the joint Karamu and Dobama Theater production of \"Caroline, or Change,\" running through October 12 in the Jelliffe Theater at Karamu House on East 89th Street in Cleveland. Set in the 1960s, the Tony-nominated musical \"Caroline\" is about the sweeping changes in America as it coped with the loss of John F. Kennedy and the upheaval of the Civil Rights Movement. \"It has a very nice cross cultural story,\" said Lauren Floyd, mother of Aric and Alexis. Both siblings have been nursing bites from the acting bug for years, Aric since he was a first grader and Alex since the sixth grade. Aric has been featured in a number of productions throughout the Northeast Ohio area at the Great Lakes Theater Festival, Cain Park, the Karamu Youth Theater and Baldwin Wallace. \"He`s had some really special opportunities,\" said Mrs. Floyd. His next production is in November when he will play Travis in \"A Raisin in the Sun\" at The Cleveland Play House. Alexis, who joined the acting fray a bit later than her brother, is no less smitten with stage. She`s appeared in productions at the Karamu Youth Theater, East Cleveland Community Theater, the Heights Youth Theater and Cain Park. Her next role will be in the Beck Center for the Arts` December production of \"Peter Pan,\" where she`ll play Tiger Lily. It all seems fitting for the two Floyds. Their mother was the former manager for the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra and their father, Mark, a partner at Thompson Hine, is also a classically trained tenor.
