Three First Place Wins at History Day

jb
Seventh grader Arthur Erlendsson, senior Hannah Miller and junior Tim Miller are headed to the state History Day competition after winning first place recently at districts. Erlendsson became John Ross for his presentation and dramatically retold his experiences with the Cherokee Nation`s struggles for unity in the mid to late 1800s in his piece titled \"Divisions Within, Pressure Without: Conflicts and Compromises of the Cherokee Nation in the Civil War Era.\" Both Millers (who are brother and sister) recounted the life of Mother Bickerdyke, an influential and beloved Civil War nurse, who was closely tied to the camps of Ulysses S. Grant and William Tecumseh Sherman. All three students were selected from nearly 500 Cleveland area students and will compete for a place at National History Day, which will be held at the University of Maryland in June.
