Feel The Rhythm

jb
Garet Libby definitely kicked it up a notch. Last year, the eighth grade Humanities teacher, at the culmination of a unit of study about Africa, had her students perform and record a series of powerful songs and poems that Africans used to cope with and overcome segregation and apartheid. But this year, she wanted something even more moving that would require the students to throw all of themselves into the experience of learning about Africa. And quite literally, it moved her students all over the floor of Ingalls Gym to the drum beats of African rhythms. Libbey partnered with African Soul International, a local African dance and drum troupe, for a dance workshop which would culminate in a performance in front of the Lower and Middle School. \"I think the students [had] been studying the subject at arm`s length for a while and I think it [was] a nice way for them to really get into it,\" Libbey said. Check HawkNet, under \"Recent Galleries,\" for pictures from the assembly.
