Hawken Hawk now perched in high places

jb
The Hawk has a home. Emblazoned on the water tower with view overlooking the athletic fields and the Gates Mills campus, he casts a watchful eye over everything Red and Gray. And this just in time for the upcoming grand opening of Walton Stadium, Hawken`s new $1.95 million field with turf and lights. The Hawk`s new digs are thanks to Hawken parent Raymond Koren. A parent of graduates Raymond `01, Matthew `03, and Greg `07, he has always been a faithful supporter of Hawken School. But when the call came to support the new athletic stadium, he wasn`t satisfied with just writing a check and sending it in. \"I wanted to do something a little bit different, because I see so many people putting in their time and their energy and their expertise, that I wanted to something different than stroke the check,\" he said. Koren volunteered his company, Worldwide Industries, which specializes in painting water and storage tanks across the country and in the Virgin Islands, South America and Central America, to paint the Hawk on the water tank near the athletic fields. \"We`re glad to do it,\" Koren said. \"We appreciate the job that [the faculty and staff does] with the kids. That doesn`t go unnoticed.\" Click here for a slide show of the painting of the water tower.
