`The Wall` a new addition to P.E.

Hawken students are using a Traverse Climbing Wall! The wall is a new addition to the Brown Gym and will be used in Physical Education classes for students at the Lyndhurst campus. At its highest point, the wall measures eight feet and is approximately twenty feet long. Under the careful supervision of their Physical Education instructor, participants climb horizontally across the wall. Their feet should never be higher than three feet off the ground. Traverse wall activities are new, fun, exciting and engaging. Climbing is a captivating activity that contributes to overall physical fitness levels as well as strength and coordination development. In addition, important life skills like teambuilding, problem solving, goal setting, perseverance, inner confidence and patience will be learned through the climbing activities. Students will experience \"challenge by choice\" and no student will be asked to attempt more than they \"choose\" to do. -Sandy Kahn, Physical Education Chair, PS-8
