Don`t mess with these fourth-graders

jb
The gym was full of fourth-graders, gazing intently ahead, each thrusting their fists out in front of them as if giving bullies well-deserved socks to the kisser. \"Kiah!\" they shouted, the sound a reverberating war cry. On this day, the kids had become temporary students of the ancient martial art of Tae Kwon Do. Bullies beware. The Lower Schoolers spent nearly 45 minutes practicing some of the martial art`s basic kicks and jabs led by Master Kwon of the Chun Ma Tae Kwon Do studio. Sure, it was probably fun to let all school-induced inhibitions go, kicking and punching without repercussion, but it`s likely the students were spurred to such ferocity by a demonstration from three of their peers at the beginning of the proceedings. Fourth-graders Emily and Matthew Pitera and Chandler Whipple are students of Tae Kwon Do along with their families and brought Master Kwon to Hawken to give the rest of their friends a taste of the excitement by showing them what they`ve learned in the year or so they`ve been studying. At one point, Matthew leaped through the air over his sister and split a piece of wood in half with one whammy of a kick. It was a move that brought wild kudos from the crowd. And one that got them raring to go, ready to unleash their inner warriors. So a word of caution, if you will. Bullies beware.
