Eighth Grade Students To Visit Upper School

waskowitz
Now that it is 2007, we are beginning to plan for the important transition between eighth and ninth grade. Our eighth and ninth grade teaching teams as well as Lyndhurst and Gates Mills administration have already begun to plan a number of transition events throughout the second half of eighth grade and during the late summer and early fall of the 2007- 2008 school year. The first transition event involves eighth grade visits to the Gates Mills campus. Starting next week, eighth graders will leave Lyndhurst at 8:30 AM and travel to the Upper School in small groups of five or six on the morning of their visit, using school-provided transportation. After a short orientation, each eighth grader will be paired with a ninth grader and attend classes with him or her from 9 AM to 2 PM. The faculty and administration will work with the ninth grade hosts so that they will be prepared for their visitors and will make sure that the eighth graders get a feel for a typical day. Following a debriefing session with Upper School faculty, the eighth graders will return to Lyndhurst in time for Chapel. Based upon feedback from previous eighth grade students who have visited the Upper School, this type of schedule and individual student-to-student pairing is far more personable and preferable to that of large groups of eighth graders visiting all at once. Eighth graders will be notified as to when their visit day has been scheduled. Questions? Please feel free to contact the Middle School Office.
