Weaving for warmth

jb
A handful of Hawken students seem to be getting closely acquainted with the virtues of a needle and yarn. Apparently, there`s a lot to be gained from weaving hats, mittens, blankets and sweaters. Like warmth. As winter eases its way into the atmosphere (with recent unexpected visits), Hawken French and Latin teacher Jodie Gill and her newly formed Knitting Club are hoping that a few less people have to freeze their way through the often brutally cold season. The group is working to contribute to Warm Up America, a national foundation that distributes winter accessories across the country. Knitters across the country commit to creating items that are ultimately distributed to women`s shelters, nursing homes, children`s hospitals, hospitals and hospices, daycare centers, veterans` homes, churches, AIDS facilities, homeless shelters and American Red Cross chapters. Students will spend the coming months working on their contributions during activities periods, pool them together and then send them off for distribution.
