Hawken grad to sign book at Joseph Beth

Dr. Barron Lerner `78 will sign his latest book, When Illness Goes Public: Celebrity Patients and How We Look at Illness, at the Joseph Beth Booksellers in Legacy Village on Friday, December 1 at 7:00 p.m. The book explores how celebrity illnesses, while beneficial to medical research and treatments, have taken on inaccurate mythical characteristics. Lerner, a widely published author, is the Angelica Berrie Gold Foundation Associate Professor of Medicine and Public Health at the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. His book The Breast Cancer Wars was the winner of the 2006 William H. Welch Medal of the American Association for the History of Medicine.
