Cleveland Cavaliers join Hawken to host internship

Hawken School recently teamed with the Cleveland Cavaliers to provide a unique in-school sports marketing internship for Hawken`s Upper School students. The partnership is in conjunction with the school`s Pathways Program, which connects students with professionals to help navigate their own future career paths. Buffy Filippell, a renowned sports executive recruiter; Paul Garofolo, former president and general manager of the Cleveland Force soccer team; and Jeff Kadlub, a Cavs corporate sales executive are serving as student mentors during the internship. For the next five months, over 30 students will work to develop promotional strategies to market two Hawken basketball games in February, learning the ropes in ticket sales, corporate sponsorship and game operations. Students will also travel to Quicken Loans Arena to meet with Cavs representatives, get an up-close look at how games are planned and executed and learn more about careers in professional sports marketing.
