Golfers Grab CVC Title

They`ve done it again. The Men`s Varsity Golf Team grabbed the Chagrin Valley Conference Metro Division title, edging out Kirtland and Cuyahoga Heights at the Conference Tournament on Thursday, Sept. 21 at the Painesville Country Club. The Hawks move to the State Sectional Tournament at Oak Knolls in Kent on Tuesday, Sept. 26, where they are defending Sectional Champs after having won last year. Only the Sectionals and Districts stand in the team`s way of reaching the State Championship. "These kids worked hard," said golf coach Bert Kovarik. "They are excited about going to the Sectionals." Junior Ryan Brenner was named CVC Conference MVP for accumulating the most points throughout the Conference pre-, regular and post-seasons. That`s not just among the Hawken team, but the entire conference Metro division, which is made up of Cuyahoga Heights, Independence, Kirtland, Berkshire and Fairport. Brenner joins six other team members who are all feeling quite confident about the team`s prospective success. "They think they can get out of the Sectionals," said Kovarik. "...I think they can too.\"
