Hawken Hosts Japanese Art Exhibit

pac(enews)
The Hawken Community and the general public are invited to an opening reception on April 21, 5-7pm, for Infusion and Diffusion, an exhibit of works by four Japanese artists. The exhibit, which is part of Hawken School`s Arts and Humanities Series, is being co-sponsored by the Japanese Association of Northeast Ohio, the Consulate General of Japan in Detroit and the Japan Foundation. Denise Buckley, Pk-12 Art Department Chair, says the exhibit promises to be an intriguing exchange of cultures. \"The Japanese idea of art is so different than that of Americans,\" she says. \"They approach art as if it were a precious jewel - with discipline and perfection... it`s calming.\" The works of ceramist Keiko Akiyama, print maker Margaret Yuko Kimura, glass artist Masami Koda, and painter Megumi Wallech will be on display the Gallery of the Arts/Communications Lobby at Hawken`s Gates Mills Campus until May 15. As part of the cultural exchange, workshops in ceramics and glass flame working will be conducted by Keiko Akiyama and Masami Koda on Saturday, April 22, for students from Hawken School and from the Japanese Language School of Cleveland.
