Ahren Stock to Perform March 5

You`ve probably seen Ahren Stock putting in a full day teaching general music, instrumental music and jazz band to Hawken`s 4th - 8th graders, but you may not know that he tops off his day at Lyndhurst by pursuing music of his own. As part of his graduate studies in Music Education at Case Western, Stock plays the trumpet and conducts for the 100-member Case Symphonic Winds ensemble, and sits in the trumpet section of the more elite University Circle Wind Ensemble. The groups rehearse six hours a week and perform several concerts each academic year. Of conducting, Stock notes that \"conducting a 100-member ensemble, with members all out of high school, took some getting used to, but I`ve learned a lot about working with the musicians and running the rehearsals. And then, when I play with the University Circle Wind Ensemble, I sit lower in the section but play with other musicians of a very high caliber. It can be humbling!\" As much as Stock enjoys playing, he considers teaching to be his calling - though he has been known to bring his trumpet, guitar, percussion and vocal skills onto the chapel stage for performances with the Lyndhurst faculty band.
