Several eighth-grade athletes were recognized as Old Board Award winners for their success during the winter season. The Old Board Award is one of Hawken`s most prestigious awards for deserving athletes. Recipients of the award embody the highest ideals of fair play and respect for the game, opponents, coaches, and teammates. The 2005-2006 winter Old Board Award winners in basketball are Brian Vogt, John Wilson and John Weiss. Swimming Old Board Award recipients include Kelynn Carter, Jonathan Borden and Amanda Moore. Meanwhile, coach Dan Walton `96 bestowed the Old Board Award honor on the entire wrestling team. He says, \"I was proud of the accomplishments that the eighth-grade wrestlers made and I felt this was an appropriate way to honor a special year.\" Eight of the 11 wrestlers were wrestling for the first time according to Walton, and they finished the season with a record of 15-2. \"We learned new moves everyday,\" comments Walton, \"and the strides that each athlete made were enormous. Our focus was to be a team and not simply be on a team. We wanted to be as respectful and supportive of each other whether we were at practice, at a match, or walking down the hallway.\" Wrestlers Nate Baker, Sam Broer, Taylor Davis, Dylan Ford, Teddy Hook, Michael Marabito, Eric Meisel, John Kachurek, Montreaux Rodgers, Bryan Silverman, and Eric West earned the wrestling Old Board Award.
